So last time I blogged I said I wanted to get back to doing it more often but I had been busy. Well I've still been busy.
Ethan and I have been vlogging so if you want to check that out, we are actually starting to get better at it. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCb0LPzkfmMBg6JTZw_GS6ZQ?view_as=subscriber
Not sure why it spaced everything out like that just now.... Anyway..
We've been very busy but things are going very very well!! Some big changes are happening and I'm very excited to share them with you. You can see more of this and better stay up to date by subscribing to our youtube channel.
This has honestly been opening my eyes to a lot of things lately. I used to think we were so boring and never did anything but since I have been working on all of these Youtube videos i have realized we do a lot more than I thought and we have a lot of fun!
On a side note of that, I am a very shy person, I've gotten better but I am awkward, I have a hard time talking to a camera, it is taking a lot of getting used to. I am really starting to love it though!!
Getting away from that, I want to do more pictures and go on more adventures before winter hits us in the face so schedule something with me!!
Stay tuned for more pictures coming soon!
I've been away from my website for a little bit, I've just been pretty busy photographing horse shows and editing videos, (who knew!) so I haven't posted a blog in a while and I also haven't worked on any of my project I gave myself this spring. I'll get there.
Yesterday was Father's day so Ethan and I washed my dad's truck for him and I did some photos of it for him that turned out pretty nice!
I did a couple horse shows and did a session with one of the riders to get some good photos for my new business cards that I finally ordered today! I'm very excited, they are going to be amazing.
I was the sponsored photographer for the Horses and Hounds horse show in Hartford, OH on 5/20/2017 and although the lighting wasn't great I did get some awesome photos and have done pretty well in the sales of them! HUGE Thank you to everyone that purchased their show photos from me! It means so much to me!
I ordered them from Moo.com very cool products and even sent me a free sample of the types of business cards they offer. Very unique! I can't wait till they get here.
I also spent some more time on the other side of the camera and did a portfolio photo shoot modeling for Foxy by Design. She was very fun to work with and I can't wait to see those photos!!!
I think that's about it! I will try to get back to posting here more often.
I didn't do many photos last week/ weekend. It was actually a pretty tough week. Monday I lost my leopard gecko, Yoshi, I had for about 4 and a half years who had been sick for quite a while and wouldn't eat. Thursday night into Friday morning I found my sugar gliders hardly breathing and rushed them to medvet, I lost Rocket (white) before we got there and they couldn't get him back, then I left Groot (grey) there over night in hopes they could get him back to health and although he was a little more awake he was having seizures and not absorbing anymore of the fluids and medications they were giving him. They told me his chances were very grave and he was suffering, so I made the extremely difficult decision to give him peace. They weren't even a year old yet. It broke my heart, anyone who knows me knows how much I love all of my babies. It was so sudden. I learned that sugar gliders in the wild will not show signs of illness until they're too close to death to save because their families will leave them behind if they show any signs of illness. They seemed completely normal the night before and then they were gone.
So now in their honor I am taking more initiative and getting goals accomplished, I am appreciating everyone and everything I love because you never know when it could be gone. I've now seen how quickly things can go wrong. I don't want to take anything for granted. I am trying to be more kind and patient, go out of my way to do something good for someone, and I want to get back to doing what I love so I can be the best I can be at everything I love.
Thank you for all of your support, I am not sure if anyone has been following these but to everyone who follows me on instagram and facebook and supports my passion, thank you so much, it means more to me than you probably know.
This photo is actually for a couple of the projects I'm working on. 1. Only shooting in monochrome and 2. only shooting with a smartphone. The purposes being: "We don’t see the world in monochrome. Black and white is an abstraction in the world. That is why it looks more “artistic” to the average person. It is novel, unique, and different.
However it takes a while for you to train your eye to see the world in monochrome."
"to realize that photography is less about the gear and more about your personal vision, and how you see the world. The tool isn’t as important as your eye.
This assignment might also teach you the importance of just always having your camera with you, ready, and prepared to click."
I've also started another project on the list: Going a month without social media. Okay I'm not going all out with this one just yet but I did deactivate my facebook. I've noticed it really giving me anxiety a lot and I just spend too much time mindlessly scrolling through posts I really don't even care about. I deactivated it a few months ago and really enjoyed not being glued to my phone so much so I'm happy to do it again. I will keep my instagram but I will definitely be trying to stay off of it more.
"By “fasting” from social media from a month, you will get a better sense of why you make photos. And I can guarantee you, you will feel less stressed and anxious to keep up with the “social media rat race.”
I'm starting a few projects to get better at photography. This one is where I had to take 10 photos of one scene from 10 different angles. The purpose of it is to force myself to find new angles and views of the same scene to teach myself to see scenes differently. Also, I took it vertically instead of horizontally like I have typically been doing and I made it black and white which makes you look at other aspects that make the image what it is without color.
I'm really excited about these projects and I will be posting here every day what I've done and learned by doing these assignments everyday. I'm excited to see where this will take me.
I have been a little MIA recently to take some time for myself to get out of a creative block I was in, but I'm back and I'm ready to do some photos! I'm also moving back to Delaware in about a week and a half!
My goal is to be able to buy my dream camera by the end of summer. The Nikon d810.. (drool!) I've wanted this camera for years and I'm ready to actually work for it now so all of the money I make from sessions this year is strictly going into the d810 fund.
So for a little kick starter I will be doing a Facebook and Instagram contest to give away a session or 2 and for the entire month of April I will be doing all sessions 50% off (weddings and family sessions over 5 people will be an exception to that but I will still discount those 20%) So keep an eye out for that on social media!
Also, I'm considering upgrading my website. It is a little too restricted and I could use some of the extra features. I am realizing I am not using this website to it's full potential and I want to change that so the website might get a little cooler soon. Who knows. Still only a thought.
Anyway! Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns or to schedule a session!
